Football Recap: Broncos Edge Hapless Jets in Defensive Affair
In a low-scoring contest this weekend, the Broncos clinched a 13-11 win over the struggling New York Jets. Signal-caller Bo Nix connected on a first-quarter touchdown pass and kicker Wil Lutz kicked the game-winning decisive three-pointer to secure the ugly win.
Defensive Display Wins Game
Despite recording nine sacks against Jets QB Justin Fields, the Broncos were behind 11-10 after conceding a safety in the second half. Remarkably, the Jets managed a mere 82 offensive yards throughout the contest.
The Denver quarterback, who completed 19 of 30 passes for 174 yards, engineered a critical 12-play, 65-yard drive that ended with Lutz's 27-yard field goal with just over five minutes remaining.
Historic Difficulties for Jets Offense
In spite of their dismal performance, the Jets still had the ball with a chance to drive for a potential victory. However Fields was sacked on fourth down from the Denver 44 after coach Aaron Glenn opted to attempt the conversion rather than sending out specialist Nick Folk for a difficult kick.
The Jets quarterback had difficulties all game, completing just 9 of 17 passes for 45 yards. The Jets ended up with negative ten net yards passing, the fewest in any contest since 1998.
"The aerial attack was completely absent," Glenn commented following the game.
